Current state of this archive:
This archive includes scans of all 85 issues of New Masses from its first 8 years (1926-1933).
The scans here I made from my personal collection, from the personal collection of Tim Davenport, from the personal collection of Ted Watts, and from the holdings of Holt Labor Library of San Francisco.
Note: Stanford’s Hoover Library gave us very kind assistance in supplying color scans of color covers of two issues (July 1926 and May 1927) and with a color 2 page center graphic art work in May 1927 where we did not have access to the original paper. May 1927 is an exceptionally rare issue: neither Tamiment Library nor Hatcher Labadie library had a copy of it! Two weeks later, a copy of May 1927 became available from Lorne Bair rare books, enabling me to make scans of it entirely from the original paper.
At this point (late July 2015) of these 85 issues scanned, 84 scans are art-preserving, high-resolution scans from original paper made personally by me.
Only the October 1930 issue scans are not from original paper. The scans of that issue were made by others, from microfilm made by Princeton University.

The Riazanov Library New Masses Project involves creating and sharing scans of New Masses in the period from the first issue in May of 1926, thru to the end of 1933. In 1934, New Masses changed publication from monthly to weekly. By 1934, the political character of the publication had changed significantly, and its presentation of graphic art was by then greatly reduced. Outside of providing scans of a very few selected issues, we have no plans to systematically scan issues from 1934 to the end of publication of New Masses (1948).
Full runs of New Masses were made onto microfilm by the New York Public Library, and are available at a number of major libraries. Perhaps some day someone will wish to make digital runs of the publication in the post 1933 period. From original copies if they can, from microfilm if they can't. Note that a few libraries do hold complete runs of this publication as original paper... certainly in the period beyond 1929... but none that I know of have any interest in making their copies available to those who wish to scan them, or to do a project scanning them themselves.
