International Socialism, Autumn 1971

Letter To Readers

From International Socialism, No.49, Autumn 1971, p.5.
Transcribed & marked up by Einde O’Callaghan for ETOL.

A BRIEF explanation. With this issue of International Socialism we are reverting to quarterly from bimonthly publication. In part we are doing this to improve the coverage of the journal. It is our hope that by concentrating our resources on in-depth coverage of one main topic in each issue we can make each issue both more informative and more relevant. For that reason this issue is centred around a feature on the Common Market, as the last was on the trade union bureaucracy. In future we will be doing the same with the political organisations of the British labour movement and with Ireland.

There is another reason for the change, also of significance for our readers. Our sister paper, the weekly, Socialist Worker, is to be further expanded. Already it has established itself as an, important influence on the left in this country. We think that with effort we can expand its circulation – currently at 15,000 – and its following a good deal further. Readers who miss the more frequent appearance of IS can easily compensate themselves by taking out a subscription to Socialist Worker.
