Space is again a problem, and has this time forced larger chunks of the journal into the minute print that many readers have always regarded as an intentional attempt to prevent them reading the reviews section. We did think, as this is a Christmas issue (or nearly that), that we could offer free magnifying glasses to all readers, but although circulation is rising at an unprecedentedly rapid rate, at the moment, funds do not yet stretch that far. As always when we promise something in the preceding issue, we have not been able to extract Michael Kidron’s analysis of modern capitalism; it is now planned for IS 28 (absolutely final press date: 20 January). We publish a note earlier in this issue on the death of Andre Breton. Those active in the old New Left will also be saddened to hear of the death of Denis Butt in the autumn. He was a good friend to many and we shall miss him.

Our contributors this issue include Ian Birchall, 27, teaches French, Enfield College of Technology, and formerly resident in France; former editorial secretary of Labour Worker, active in the Labour Party and Movement. E. Sanspere, 26, of Polish birth and upbringing, schoolteacher, active in the NUT and CARD. Raymond Challinor is already known to IS readers (cf. his biography and article, IS 3 and IS 11), as is Jim Higgins (cf. IS 14).
