The larger issue this time reflects the continuing congestion of copy. It looks like being the same for IS 27 when we hope we shall be presenting a major new analysis of modern capitalism by Michael Kidron, Ian Birchall on European labour, Jim Higgins on Rosa Luxemburg and a further instalment from Lukacs’ History and Class Consciousness. Plus comments and criticisms of this and past issues – given the pressure on space, contributions for IS 27 should be sent in as early as possible, and certainly well before the press date, 20 October. Ken Coates is quite rightly continuing his battle to be reinstated in the Labour Party, and hoping that the coming Party Conference will effect this. His two documents, My Expulsion and Why I Should Be Reinstated (a final plea to the NEC tribunal) vividly portray the astonishing acrobatics, elaborate and baseless smears and heavy-footed bureaucracy with which the NEC have treated this case. A number of Labour MPs and trade unionists have now taken up the case with a view to referring back the NEC Report section covering the expulsion at the Party Conference. The documents can be obtained from Ken (19 Greenfield St, Dunkirk, Nottingham) and Sarah Barker’s lame reply from Transport House (Smith Square, SW1). Any readers who are delegates to Conference should arm themselves with the facts, be ready to fire the right questions at the NEC and add their weight to getting Ken reinstated; non-delegates should rustle up their own constituency parties and trade-union branches.

The most militant campaign being waged in this country against the Vietnamese war is undoubtedly the Vietnam Solidarity Campaign (8 Roland Gardens, SW7) which is explicitly committed to US evacuation of Vietnam and a Vietcong victory. The Campaign has held an impressive series of meetings throughout the country, demonstrations and marches – IS readers are already active in the Campaign; or, at least, those that are not, should be.
