Dear Andy,
I would like you to delete my name and address from your discussion group. My approach to Hegel and the dialectic is filtered via Alexandre Kojeve, Lacan and Bataille and similar thinkers who identified in their reading of Hegel the centrality of "lack" in our thought and existence. I think that a better understanding of the question of "desire" could possibly help many people to come to terms with their antisocial pursuits. I do not think that there is "dialectic" anywhere. Every single thing in our environment is pointing in the direction of inertia, and absolute identity (with nothingness).
Definitely I am not a "nihilist" we all have to live our lives for better or worse, and history takes its course, and I do not believe that anyone gives up on life anyway (even those who decided to put an end to their own life because they actually took it too seriously).
A bigger challenge is to think the absurdity of life, as Hegel says, to think in the face of death, and to look at it...
Definitely, I AM NOT A MARXIST, it is very sweet, and most of all it does not work. The "infrastructure" is much deeper than any Marxist thinks.
Good luck to all of you.
