I wonder if it is fair to rephrase Cyril's last statements as follows:

Insofar as the particular social context and/or historicity of logic remains visible, its "application" is acceptable (not necessarily 'correct').

Now, it is not clear to me whether Cyril implies that the application of mathematical and statistical models in economics is doomed (necessarily) by social fetishism.

Since the term 'economics' may be understood in a restricted sense -- say, along the lines of Marx's designations of 'burgeois political economy', 'vulgar political economy', etc. -- I should probably set the question differently:

Can a critical political economy -- without relenting its subversive purpose -- apply mathematical and statistical models fruitfully?
