My dear friend,
I'm sorry to write you so late, and thank you very much.
I have been busy these last days with a project to translate my Mémoires a project suggested by translator named de Baufort. We have just signed a contract with Rives (Rochefort saw and approved it). At least, I received an advance for my work, I began to worry about it, most of the time I am not lucky, and that’s why I am happy to give you this pleasant news.
I enclose with this letter an article for l'Intransigeant – a fool from the St James Gazette has spread unpleasant gossip about me. He said he saw me with haggard eyes, walking from the station to Levallois & & & . Do you remember the other idiot who saw me in the Bois de Boulogne when I was busy with the Invalides trial?
