Uceda

 

Uceda, Luis de la Puente (1926-1965)

Founder, principal theoretician, and leader of the Peruvian Movement of the Revolutionart Left (MIR) in the 1960s. He started his political career in APRA, but moved to the left and to Marxism, breaking with APRA after the Cuban Revolution. He was an exponent of the theory of guerrilla foci as catalysts for socialist revolution. In 1965 Uceda and the MIR launched several guerrilla focos, which were promptly defeated by the Peruvian Army, and Uceda killed in combat.
